The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has expressed readiness to partner with the University of Lagos in championing the promotion of Green Building in Nigeria.
Climate Business Development Manager of the IFC in Nigeria, Mrs. Temilola Sonola made this known during a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe FAS on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
Mrs. Sonola hinted that the proposed partnership with UNILAG will debut the IFC’s Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) project in Nigeria.
According to her, the IFC through its EDGE project, intends to train and certify students of tertiary institutions in Green Building.
Mrs. Sonola said the proposed partnership with UNILAG also aligns with the IFC’s commitment to make Climate considerations an essential requirement of all its projects from 2025.
She noted that the IFC intends to develop the EDGE project into a full academic programme which will train, build capacities, and give certification in Green Building, one which it hopes to debut in Nigeria through the University of Lagos.
In her remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences; Professor Modupe Omirin expressed enthusiasm and readiness of her faculty to ensure the successful implementation of the partnership.
Also speaking, Architect Adeolu Okulaja of the Arcline Beehive Design Foundation (ABDF) emphasized the need for collaborations towards actualization of a clean environment, one which he said, UNILAG is at the verge of, through the debuting of legacy projects across all faculties of the university.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, appreciated the Climate Business Development Manager of the IFC in Nigeria, Mrs. Temilola Sonola for the proposed partnership with UNILAG.
He gave an assurance of the University’s readiness to play its own part in the successful actualization of the partnership with IFC. He also reiterated UNILAG’s open doors to development-driven collaborations with every willing partner.
