The immediate past Head, Department of Philosophy, University of Lagos, Professor Douglas Anele, has left office in grand style.
He celebrated the end of his tenure with the commissioning of three refurbished facilities on Thursday, August 25, 2022. The refurbished facilities are the Head of Department’s Office, Postgraduate Class Room, and Departmental Seminar Room.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Department, Professor Anele disclosed that it had always been his desire to leave a lasting legacy behind. He explained that despite tremendous personal challenges, he was able to achieve his desire with the support of willing donors, including the Founder of Olori Francis Meshioye Foundation/Supreme Leader of the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity Olori Francis Meshioye, and the Director, Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), Professor Muyiwa Falaiye.
Olori Meshioye, who was present at the event, congratulated the University of Lagos for its many strides. The culture aficionado encouraged the institution to continue to partner with cultural stakeholders in order to elevate indigenous cultural practices.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, felicitated with Professor Anele on the successful completion of his tenure. He commended the renowned philosopher for achieving his desire to leave the department better than he met it. The Vice-Chancellor challenged the new Head of Department to surpass his predecessor’s achievement.

Professor Anele served as Head, Department of Philosophy from August 1, 2019 to July 31, 2022.
