Efforts of researchers in the University of Lagos which includes the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu has yielded a grant of NOK19,956,214.00 (Norwegian Kroner) from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).
The research grant is equivalent to USD2,307,217.73.
Of the grant amount, the University of Lagos has a budgetary provision of NOK3,528,338.00 which is equivalent of USD411,060.00.
The grant is in respect of a project which centres around Capacity Building in Aquatic Animal and Environmental Health in West Africa (Aqua-HEM).
The research project is to run for 5 years beginning from Saturday, January 1, 2022 till Thursday, December 31, 2026.
Collaborators on the project include: the Norwegian University of Life Sciences; University of Lagos, Nigeria; University of Ghana Legon, Accra (UG); Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Development Studies, all in Ghana.
While the Lead Principal Investigator is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, University of Lagos, Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu, other investigators on the project include; Dr Minasu Pentho Kuton, Dr Amii Amaechi-Obiakara and Ecosystem Health and Pollution Management Research Cluster of the Department of Marine Sciences.
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, congratulates the researchers for their intellectual efforts which brought about the grant. Of satisfaction to the Vice-Chancellor is the international angle to the project, a feat which Prof. Ogundipe says aligns with his vision and push for international research collaborations with a view to giving the University of Lagos more prominence among the global comity of ivory towers.
