DLI Receives Instructional Design Training from RETRIDOL/COL

As the Distance Learning Institute (DLI), University of Lagos (UNILAG) prepares for the commencement of its upcoming Residential Programme for the 2019/2020 academic session, members of staff of the Institute commenced a 3-Day Workshop on Instructional Design on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Board Room Red brick, DLI, UNILAG.

The Workshop was organised and facilitated by the Regional Training and Research Institute for Distance and Open Learning (RETRIDOL) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and sponsored by Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

The Director, Distance Learning Institute (DLI), UNILAG, Prof. Uchenna N. Udeani, while welcoming the facilitators from RETRIDOL, intimated the gathering how the workshop came to reality and expressed gratitude for the support received.

The Vice-Chancellor, UNILAG, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, was ably represented by Professor Oluwole B. Familoni, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research), at the opening ceremony of the Workshop. He appreciated RETRIDOL and COL for their support in facilitating and sponsoring the training and commended Prof. Uchenna N. Udeani, Director, DLI, for her dynamic and energetic nature with which she has brought several innovative drives to the Institute. He encouraged DLI staff participating in the workshop to make the best of the opportunity, and in turn pass on the knowledge gained to other members of the University community.

The power-packed workshop was very interactive and practical. At the end of the Workshop, it was envisaged that DLI staff will be well versed in:

  • Setting up a standard virtual learning environment
  • The Basics of Instructional Design
  • Fundamentals of Learning Content Management Systems
  • Converting Course Materials to Online format
  • Creating/Uploading Instructional Videos
  • Managing a Chat room/discussion forum
  • Distinguishing Face-to-Face and Online Facilitation style/technique
  • Using Zoom, Moodle, etc. for Online Facilitation

The workshop, which ended on Thursday, September 30, 2021, started with the Vice-Chancellor receiving the Director of RETRIDOL, Professor Patrick E. Eya and his team in his office at the 11th floor of the Senate House. This was followed by a brief closing ceremony where certificates were presented to participants and the facilitators were presented with gifts in appreciation of their efforts.
