The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe FAS has reassured that, under his watch, no staff would have his/her career progression impeded.
He gave the reassurance at a ceremony held to draw the curtails of a 3-month Certificate Course for Drivers in the University’s employment.
Addressing the over 200 participants who converged at the Nurudeen-Alao Auditorium of the Distance Learning Institute (DLI), venue of the ceremony, Prof. Ogundipe described the 3-month certificate course as a bold step targeted at elevating the participants beyond bureaucratic barriers already set for their cadre.
He commended all participating drivers, describing their services as significant and indispensable in the University system.
While assuring that the Certificate bagged by the participants would be used as assessment during their next annual evaluation and promotion exercise, Prof. Ogundipe also promised that the certificate programme would be open to other drivers in the University system.
Earlier in separate remarks, the Director, Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC), Dr Lateef Odekunle and the Chairman of the HRDC Board, Professor Wakeel Isola adjudged the 3-month Certificate Course for Drivers an uncommon demonstration of the Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe led UNILAG management’s commitment to staff welfare.
The duo lauded the Vice-Chancellor’s positive disposition to staff welfare, staff development and career progression as well as his commitment to the development of infrastructures.
The 3-month Certificate Course saw the 209 participants undertake theoretical and practical courses in Defensive Driving, Logistics Management, Ethics of Driving, Freight Management among others.
Highpoint of the ceremony which was graced by some management staff of the University which included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Research; Prof. Oluwole Familoni, his counterpart in charge of Management Services; Prof. Lucian Obinna-Chukwu, Registrar; Mr. Azeez Oladejo Esq., Bursar, Dr Olalekan Lawal, Director, Distance Learning Institute, Prof. Uchenna Udeani among others, was the presentation of certificates to the participants and special acknowledgment of those with distinction during the course of study.
