High Commissioner of Namibia to Nigeria pays courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor

 On Monday, June 17, 2019, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, received the High Commissioner of Namibia to Nigeria, Cameroon, Ambassador to Chad and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, H. E. Humphrey Desmond !Geiseh at his office on the 11th floor, Senate House.

The High Commissioner was in the University to discuss collaborative opportunities with the University Management.

The Vice Chancellor welcomed him to the University, gave a brief introduction of the University and its operations. Among other things, the Vice Chancellor assured the High Commissioner that

  • the University is ready to admit about 5 students from Namibia on scholarship with a 25% rebate off tuition fees for either undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.
  • in order to strengthen relations in Africa, lecturers at the University of Namibia and other Universities in Namibia can undertake their sabbaticals or take part in staff exchange programme in the University of Lagos,
  • the University is ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Lagos in the area of African Union research grants
  • He also mentioned that there are opportunities for split site Ph.Ds. where academic staff from Namibia can spend some time in the University of Lagos and vice versa for the prupose of carrying out research. He further assured that accommodation would be made available for the researchers.

The High Commissioner, in response, thanked the Management for the warm welcome and assurances and mentioned that he looks forward to seeing lecturers from Namibia teaching in UNILAG among other collaborations.

The courtesy visit was brought to an end with the presentation of gifts and group photographs.
