The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, delivered the Keynote Speech at the 2018 International Conference, organised by the Faculty of Science, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.

In the Conference with the theme: “Harnessing Scientific Innovations for a Safer Planet,” Prof. Ogundipe posited that human and economic development has largely come at the expense of the planet. His lecture traverses how technological breakthroughs have made use of energy efficiency such as HomeBiogas, gravity light, transport, voto, soccer, e-mail, MycoFoam™ (mushroom-based plastic) etc.

While explaining the need for renewable sources in addressing issues and challenges that arise from green-house gas emissions, the Professor of Botany mentioned that scientists are already looking for new ways to harvest solar energy. According to him, other possible avenues in achieving the drive include wind farms, nebia shower, water rotor among others.
