Tuesday, 12th March 2019, was a day of reward for diligence, scholarship and credibility as the University of Lagos Library honoured three of its most reputable users for the year 2018.
The University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs) Olukemi Fadehan, honoured them with the award of ‘Best Library User’ in three different categories of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Staff.
In her opening address, the University Librarian noted that in an increasingly digital age, where patronage of the Library seems to be getting out of fashion, it is important to recognize and appreciate those who have kept faith with the institution, which she emphasized will remain at the root of knowledge preservation and dissemination. She pointed out that, among many other considerations, the index that was used to identify the awardees for the inaugural edition was the number of books loaned and returned in the year.
Mr Akinse Collins, the winner of the Undergraduate category from the Department of Botany, borrowed and returned 37 books; Ms Thomas Abimbola, winner of the Postgraduate category from the Department of English, 41 books; and Dr Okonji Patrick, winner of the Staff category from the Department of Business Administration, 10 books.
The University Librarian presented plaques of honour to the winners and expressed the hope that her successor in office will take the initiative further, making it a more fanciful celebration of academic diligence.
