The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, on Thursday, January 18, 2018, met with the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, and the Senior Special Assistant, Garba Shehu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He thanked the President for granting the University a TV license, which is the first of its kind. He assured that with the TV license, UNILAG will continue to be a leader in tertiary education communication space. He also promised that the TV would be used to promote scholarship and education.
He expressed hope that the University will receive more support from the Federal Government when the TV station takes off.
Professor Ogundipe also used the opportunity of the visit to inform the Presidency of the new policy thrust of the University which is to accelerate research and innovation. Consequently, Faculty members in the University have been challenged to come up with 200 research proposals. This, he hopes, will address a number of societal challenges we are currently faced with.
He stated that the new University administration is poised to rebrand the University and enhance its visibility through its website. Alumni and friends’ support is being galvanized in this regard. This would be aptly demonstrated by the upcoming event “Dinner with UNILAG Friends” scheduled for March 29, 2018.
He concluded by thanking the Federal Government for the IPP project recently approved by the Federal Executive Council to enhance power supply and in turn research activities on Campus. He also appreciated the support from Tetfund and NEEDs assessment fund in remodeling and rebuilding students halls of residence.
The Media Team thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his visit and wished him a successful tenure in office. The Team assured the University of continuous support from the Presidency.
