On Monday, November 26, 2018, the University of Lagos, Centre for Information Technology and Systems (CITS) and some reputable IT organizations held a workshop, on CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team) in Lagos.
The CSIRT Maturity and TRANSITS Training Workshop, a cyber-security training and CSIRT community-building event was organized by West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN) in collaboration with the Open CSIRT Foundation and hosted by the Eko-Konnect Research and Education Initiative, University of Lagos and was supported by AfricaConnect2.
The event will have participants who must have satisfied prerequisites from a qualification process within the first 3 days, devoted to TRANSITS I training. TRANSITS I is an introductory training for CSIRT/CERTs covering organisation, operational and legal aspects – as well as a technical introduction. All participants who completed 3 day training received an official TRANSITS I certificate.
The other days of the workshop is designed to deal with legal and policy frameworks for CSIRT/CERT operation and cooperation, community building and organisation, national and regional trust circles, and maturity building using the SIM3 maturity model.
The primary target audience were nRENs (National Research and Education Network) and their member higher education institutions, commercial and governmental organisations from national CSIRTs/CERTs and network security related organisations also participated in the event.
Participants in the workshop came from countries across West Africa including Nigeria, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, Niger, Mali, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso. The CITS of University of Lagos provided excellent facilities and support in making the workshop an outstanding success.
The event which started on Monday 26th November ended on Friday 30th November 2018.
