Recent analysis of the NHIS registration of staff of the University of Lagos reveals that more than half of the staff either chose outside hospitals (not Unilag Medical Centre) as their Primary Healthcare Providersor are not registered at all with the NHIS. Meanwhile the University Medical Centre takes care of the health of all staff of the University and their dependents.

In effect, over 50% of the capitation (money) due to University of Lagos on their staff are either paid to outside hospitals or not paid at all. While members of staff have the right to choose their Primary Healthcare Provider, Management frowns at the idea of staff using the University Medical Centre having chosen outside hospitals as their Primary Healthcare Providers. This is also against NHIS regulation.

The University Management has therefore approved another NHIS Registration Mop-up Exercise to enable staff who are yet to register and those who may wish to change their Primary Healthcare Providers to do so with the University Medical Centre.

By this notification, after the mop-up registration exercise, the Medical Centre will cease to extend services to any staff not registered with it, except on full payment for such services as do outside patients. Details of the registration exercise are as follows:

Date: Monday 15th – Friday 19th May 2017

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily

Venue: Medical Center, University of Lagos

For Registration please come along with the following;

  • Original and Photocopy of your Appointment Letter (COMPULSORY)
  • Original and Photo copy of your University of Lagos identity card
  • Clear passport photographs of yourself and your dependents (spouse and maximum of four biological children under 18 years)
  • Date of birth of all dependents (Birth Certificates)

Staff who fall into any of the above categories are therefore advised to comply if they wish to continue to receive Healthcare at the University of Lagos Medical Center. Please inform others.
