The Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS) is organising the Black History Month for 2019.

The event, which is scheduled to hold from Tuesday, February 26 to Thursday, March 7, 2019, will hold at the IADS Gallery, Faculty of Arts J. P. Clark Centre, UNILAG.

Week I

Tuesday, February 26, 2019 – Opening Ceremony

  • 10:00a.m. – Recognition of Guests
  • 10:05a.m. – Nigeria’s National Anthem
  • 10:10a.m. – Welcome Remarks by Director IADS
  • 10:15a.m. – Remarks by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development Services)
  • 10:20a.m. – Remarks by Representative of US Consulate
  • 10:25a.m. – Cultural Dance
  • 10:30a.m. – Keynote Presentation by Russell Brooks, Public Affairs Officer, United States  Consulate General Lagos “From 1619 to 2019: Why We Must Continue to Highlight Black Excellence”
  • 11:30a.m. – Cultural Dance
  • 12:00 noon – 2:00p.m. – Film Show: “When We were Kings: The Untold Story of the Rumble in the Jungle”

Wednesday, February 27, 2019

  • 10:00 – 4:00p.m. – Cultural Expo featuring:
  • African Music and Dance
  • Celebration of African Garments
  • Film Show: “12 Years a Slave”

 Thursday, February 28, 2019

  • 10:00a.m. – 12:00 noon – Film Show: “I am Not Your Negro”
  • 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. – Art Exhibition (Mr. Chika Aneke – Alumnus of U.S. State Department sponsored International Visitors Leadership Program)
  • 2:00p.m. – Welcome Remarks (Director, IADS)
  • 2:05p.m. – Remarks by Russel Brooks, Public Affairs Officer U.S. Consulate and introduction of Mr. Chika Aneke
  • 2:15p.m. – Mr. Aneke introduces his Arts works and conducts participants round the exhibits
  • 3:00p.m. – End of Art Exhibition.
