On Monday, October 15, 2018, Prof. Akintunde Ibitayo Akinwande presented a special seminar titled: “3D X-Ray Nanoscope for Hardware Security of Hardware Security Circuit Chips“, at the Julius Berger Hall, Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos. The Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Boston, USA, explained extensively how easily a system can be hacked into.

Prof. Akinwande assured the audience that all hope is not lost as there are ways to detect when a system has been hacked into. He explained the different methods available and delved into the workings of 3D X-Ray Nanoscope. The 3D X-ray Nanoscope makes it easy to investigate specific parts of the system from different angles. It is capable of nondestructive 3D imaging of buried nanostructure, thereby detecting foreign chips that may have easily been planted into the system to compromise the security’s integrity.
