UNILAG Advancement Board Chair Calls for ”Out of the Box” Solutions to Issues Affecting Nigeria’s Tertiary Education

The Chairman of the University of Lagos Advancement Board, Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, CON has stressed the need for ‘out of the box’ solutions to issues affecting tertiary education in Nigeria.

Chief Ojo made the call during a courtesy visit to the 11th Floor, Senate House Office of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsole, FAS on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. He was accompanied by members of the Advancement Board including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayo Atsenuwa; Bursar, Mrs F. Adekunle; Professor Abiola Sanni and Acting Director of Advancement Office, Seth Adebisi Dare.

The delegation was received by Professor Folasade Ogunsole, FAS along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Bola Obah; Registrar, Oladejo Azeez Esq and Director of Academic Planning, Professor Mopelola Olushakin.

The renowned legal luminary, who expressed his commitment to efforts aimed at moving the University forward in all areas, noted that universities had to be truly independent to flourish as engine rooms to push and sustain the development of the country.

While reminiscing on his days as a student of the University of Lagos, Chief Ojo recalled that “with as little as N54 to cover meal tickets, a student was sure of three square meals, daily,throughout the semester”. 

In response, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the AdvancementBoard Chairman for the visit, and expressed delight at his willingness to key into the strategic plans of the University. Professor Ogunsola reiterated her administration’s readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve the vision of a future-ready institution.

The visit culminated with the presentation of a token of the University’s goodwill by the Vice-Chancellor to Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, CON.
