VICE CHANCELLOR CHARGES PCN ON IMPROVING RESEARCH OUTPUT DURING VISIT 

A high-powered delegation of officials from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) on Monday, 25th April 2022 were on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS at the Senate house. 

The delegation was led by the Registrar of the Council, Dr. Elijah Mohammed who said the visit to the university was to ensure that the training and practice of the Pharmacy profession is sustained, in relation to the standard of knowledge and skill that are to be attained by persons seeking to become Pharmacists in Nigeria.

The PCN boss said they are in the university to commence the training of prospective members within the southern part of Nigeria while noting that the body is responsible for the accreditation of training institutions, registration and licensure of all Pharmacists, Pharmaceutical Premises (Manufacturing, Importation, Distribution, Wholesale, Retail, Hospital Pharmacies) as well as the issuance of Permit to Pharmacy Technicians and registration and Licensure of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors. It was an opportunity for the Council to thank the Vice-Chancellor, especially for his contribution to the body in the area of infrastructural development.

In his reaction, Prof. Ogundipe acknowledged the body for its immense work over the years despite the many upheavals in the country. While he identified the University as an important component in nation-building, he charged the government parastatal to create opportunities for robust research winning grants among its members. He asserted that as a regulatory body of Academics and professionals, the council must be committed to the practice of quality research delivery to enhance its operations.

The visit had in attendance, the first female professor of Pharmacy in Nigeria and President, West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP); Prof. Cecilia Ihuoma Igwilo, and the Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Aderonke Adepeju-Bello.
