UNILAG Hosts National Working Committee of 2024 NMA Games, Executive Members OF NTBA & NSBC

Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been commended for the top-notch state of sporting facilities within the institution.

The Chairman of the National Working Committee, 2024 Nigerian Medical Association Games, Professor Jeremiah Israel gave the commendation on Monday, November 20, 2023, when he led the Committee on a courtesy visit to the University. The Committee was accompanied by the Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu; and other members of the Chapter’s executive committee.

While applauding the institution’s commitment to sports development, Professor Isreal expressed the desire to hold the 2024 NMA Games at the University of Lagos, adding that this followed the recognition of the availability of state-of-the art sporting facilities at the University. He noted the significant efforts of the University management to improve and maintain its sporting facilities, following the completion of the 2022 Nigerian University Games (NUGA).

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lucian O. Chukwu, who received the delegation on behalf of the University Management team, appreciated the association for proposing UNILAG as venue of the 2024 NMA Games. He expressed the university’s readiness to evaluate the Association’s request to use its sporting facilities for the 2024 NMA Games.

At the end of the visit, the DVC (MS) received the Association’s token to mark the recent birthday of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS. Thereafter, group photographs were taken.

In a related development, executive members of the Nigerian Tropical Biology Association (NTBA) and Nigerian Society for Conservation Biology (NSCB) were also guests of the UNILAG Management team on Monday, November 20, 2023. They were received the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lucian O. Chukwu in the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Senate House.

The courtesy visit comes on the heels of the 8th Biodiversity Conservation Conference scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. The theme of the 2-day Conference is Biodiversity Conservation in Nigeria: Stakeholders Inclusion and Participation.

The opening ceremony of the conference is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Julius Berger Lecture Theatre, UNILAG.
