The Governing Council of the University of Lagos, at its meeting on Monday, March 3, 2025, confirmed the appointment of Professor Foluso Ebun Afolabi Lesi as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services).

Prof. Lesi’s appointment is for a period of two (2) years with effect from Saturday, March 29, 2025 to Sunday, March 28, 2027.

The confirmation of appointment is sequel to his election by the Senate of the University of Lagos at a meeting held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Professor Foluso Ebun Afolabi Lesi graduated MBBS in 1984 from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and obtained the Fellowship of the Faculty of Paediatrics of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP (Paed.)) in 1994.  In 1996, he proceeded to the Institute of Child Health, London – an affiliated unit of the University College London, where he obtained the Masters (MSc) in Mother and Child Health with distinction in 1997. 

In 2011, he was awarded the Fellowship of the prestigious Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP).  His areas of interest are Paediatric Neurology and Child Development.   He has over 60 publications in local and international peer-reviewed journals. He is a Foundation Fellow on the Nigerian Academy of Medicine and the Nigerian Academy of Medicine Specialties.   

He was the Secretary-General of the West African College of Physicians.  He was the Chairman of the LUTH Chapter of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, LUTH, the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and the 14th Provost of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos. 

He has served the University of Lagos in various capacities, including membership of the Academic Planning Committee, Honours Committee, Publications Vetting Committee, Appointments and Promotion Board, and the University Senate.  He is a former Council member representing the Senate.  He is the current Chairman of the University of Lagos Sports Council and also the Director of the University of Lagos Institute Of Global Health Translation.

Professor Lesi is a member of a number of professional associations including the Nigerian Medical Association, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria the Paediatric Association of Nigeria where he is the recipient of the Distinguished Paediatrician Award of the Association for 2025.  He is also an international member of the American Academy of Paediatrics and the International Society for Autism Research.
