The Intelligent Systems Lab under the Department of Computer Science, University of Lagos (UNILAG) recently held a one-week intensive training on Renewable Energy.
The training which was held from Wednesday, January 29 to Tuesday, February 4, 2025, provided capacity building in Solar PV Designs and Installation.
It was supported by the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (NCEEC), Energy Centre, UNILAG; the UNILAG Design Studio (Innovation Hub); and Dr. Gbeminiyi Sobamowo of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UNILAG.
Participants were drawn from the pool of students and faculty. They were all taken through the rigour of alternative energy and power generation which was channeled into powering some electronic devices.
Being a brain child of Dr. Roselyn Isimeto (Team lead of the Intelligent Systems Lab), the training was necessitated by the daunting challenges plaguing Nigeria’s energy sector.
She said the mission of the project “is to inspire and arouse the interest of participants as well as harness their knowledge and strength in proffering and driving innovative solutions to energy generation through various means”.
While appreciating the support gotten from partners and stakeholders which culminated in the monumental success of the debut edition of the training, Dr. Isimeto announced plans to make it a regular exercise. She, therefore, appealed to relevant stakeholders to support the initiative, with a view to grooming young minds with innovative and smart energy solutions.
