The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is ranked 2nd in Nigeria and 1001-1200, out of over 2,000 institutions across the world. This is according to the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings released on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

The rankings was meticulously conducted based on 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators. The rankings judges research-intensive universities across all core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

This year, the University is sharing the 2nd spot in Nigeria with sister universities such as: Ahmadu Bello University, Landmark University, and University of Ibadan, all arranged on the rankings table in alphabetic order.

Outside Nigeria, UNILAG is sharing the 1001-1200 range with Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK; Central Michigan University, US; Montana State University, US; Ming Chi University of Technology, Taiwan; Technical University of Madrid, Spain; Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan; ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland, to mention a few. All these are listed, alongside the universities ranked 2nd in Nigeria, alphabetically on the rankings table.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, appreciates staff, students, alumni and friends of the University for their contributions to the achievement of this feat.

Looking ahead, we use this medium to invite members of the University community to key into the FUTURE-Ready agenda of the Vice-Chancellor. Together, we would build a lasting and impactful fit-for-purpose workforce for Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large.

Let us all raise the flag of UNILAG high with integrity and valour wherever we go and in all that we do. Let the world see we are the Great Akokites for a reason!
