Setting the Records Straight: UNILAG Does NOT Charge a Fine for Any Misconduct

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Management wishes to clarify that the University Regulations do not permit the use of fine as a penalty for any offence or restitution for any act of misconduct including sexual harassment.

For the avoidance of doubt, the University has not imposed a fine on any student for misconduct of any form.

The University has clearly established guidelines, with well-defined penalties/sanctions that address academic and social misconducts. These penalties are publicly available in all student handbooks and the most recent edition of the handbook can be accessed via https://unilag.edu.ng/wp-content/uploads/UNILAG-Student-Handbook.pdf

All social misconduct issues with respect to students are treated by the Students Disciplinary Board and sanctions/penalties are issued in line with the provisions of the Handbook in all deserving cases.

Management is using this medium to remind student associations/clubs that they do not have any jurisdiction to adjudicate on social or academic misconduct matters.

All students are enjoined to take advantage of all the opportunities available for reporting grievances pertaining to academic and social misconduct including sending emails anonymously to dsa@unialg.edu.ng, academicaffairs@unilag.ng or vcoffice@unilag.edu.ng

These resources are constantly being reviewed to ensure that students are able to report their issues without fear of intimidation or victimization.

Please remain assured of the University’s zero tolerance for sexual harassment and other vices.

Thank you.
