The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, and Chinese Consulate General in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, flagged off the commencement of renovation works on the UNILAG Confucius Institute (CI) Complex.
The ceremony was held amidst pomp and ceremony at the Confucius Institute situated behind the JP Clark Building.
The project, according to Prof Ogunsola, will support efforts in providing a more conducive ambiance for training Chinese talents thereby consolidating diplomatic ties between China and Nigeria.
She commended the Government of the People’s Republic of China and Chinese Consulate in Lagos for sustaining the relationship with the University of Lagos over the decades.
In her remarks, the Chinese Consulate General in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing reaffirmed the commitment of the government and people of China towards ensuring a continually blossoming tie with Nigeria and UNILAG.
The Nigerian and Chinese Directors of the Confucius Institute, Professors Obi Iwuagwu and Zhao Hongling, in separate remarks, appreciated the management of UNILAG and Chinese Consulate in Lagos for their commitment towards the continued growth of the Confucius Institute and by extension, sustenance of diplomatic ties between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
The renovation project is to be executed by the Sino Union Construction and Engineering Company.
