UNILAG Announces Passage of Emeritus Professor Olusoga Adekunle Sofola

The University of Lagos regrets to announce the demise of its former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics & Research), Emeritus Professor Olusoga Adekunle Sofola, on Monday, June 10, 2024.

Emeritus Professor Sofola was born in Lagos on 24th January, 1947. He joined the services of the University of Lagos as Lecturer II in the Department of Physiology on 19th November, 1973. He rose through the ranks and was appointed a Professor on 1st October, 1983. He served as Provost of the College of Medicine from 1993 to1996, and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics & Research from 2003 to 2007.

With a career spanning several decades, Professor Sofola dedicated himself to the pursuit of knowledge and advancement of Physiology. His groundbreaking research and scholarly contributions have had a profound impact on the understanding of human Physiology and improved the lives of countless individuals.

As a teacher and mentor, Professor Sofola inspired generations of students and young researchers, instilling in them passion for learning and commitment to excellence. His legacy extends far beyond the classroom, as he has inspired a new generation of leaders in the field of Physiology.

Professor Sofola’s numerous achievements and awards are a testament to his hard work, dedication, and passion for his craft. His contributions to the scientific community have been recognized and celebrated nationally and internationally.

The burial arrangements of Late Emeritus Professor Sofola will be announced by his family. A condolence register has been opened at the ground floor of Senate House, UNILAG, and members of the University are welcome to pay their tributes accordingly.
