The commitment of the University of Lagos Business School (ULBS) to fostering global partnerships and internationalization stood out as the School hosted members of the European Union (EU) Erasmus+ Programme on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

The Erasmus+ Programme is a flagship initiative of the European Union (EU) aimed at promoting mobility and cooperation in the area of higher education.

Led by Professor Berislav Andrlic of JosipJuraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (UNIOS), the EU Erasmus+ Programme delegation deliberated extensively with the School’s stakeholders in an interactive forum held at ULBS Meeting Room 2, Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC), UNILAG, Akoka.

Participants at the Eramus+ Forum had the chance to engage in constructive dialogues aimed at enhancing academic collaboration and fostering a deeper understanding of diverse educational systems.  The forum also offered an avenue for talks on academic collaboration and student mobility under the prestigious Erasmus+ Programme.

In his presentation, Professor Berislav Andrlic disclosed that “For over thirty (30) years, the Erasmus+ programme has given students and staff the opportunity to move between European universities. The Erasmus+ has also allowed short-term mobility to Europe from other parts of the world for students, researchers, and staff. This two-way mobility allows students to study in a foreign university for three to twelve (3-12) months and obtain credits which are then recognized at the sending institution as part of their degree.”

He elaborated how knowledge sharing and the establishment of professional connections across borders are pivotal in facilitating student and staff exchanges, joint research projects, and collaborative academic programs amongst many others.

Professor Andrlic revealed that Erasmus+ offers Capacity Building in Higher Education action (CBHE) projects aimed at modernising and reforming higher education institutions, developing new curricula, improving governance, and building relationships between higher education institutions and enterprises.

For the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the importance of research exchange programmes cannot be over-emphasized.

The immediate past Executive Director of ULBS and current Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), UNILAG, Professor Abraham Osinubi stated this as he gave a presentation on behalf of the University at the forum. He noted that research exchange programs offered networking opportunities, and the ability to foster relationships that are essential for successful international collaborations.

Professor Osinubi, who is an internationally acclaimed academic cum researcher in the field of Anatomy, noted that the core values of the Erasmus+ programme aligns with the ULBS mission to merge both town and gown for the purpose of excellence in business and entrepreneurial development.
