ACP Vows to Support UNILAG in Stepping-up Security Measures

The Area Commander, Area ‘C’ of the Nigerian Police Force, Mr. A Y Adedeji has assured that the Police force will step up measures in some areas identified as black spots that could leave the university community susceptible to attacks. 

Mr. Adedeji accompanied by the Head, Department of State Security, (DSS) Mr. M.A Fadunsin gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, FAS on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at her 11th-floor office, Senate House of the University.

According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, the Police will strengthen its security architecture around the varsity, and this will invariably aid the effectiveness of its operations. It was an opportunity for the Police Chief to re-iterate the police commitment to the University helmswoman, noting that perpetrators of criminal activities within the university will be brought to book.

The Vice-Chancellor, in her response, appreciated the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force for its unalloyed commitment over the years. In her words “I am thankful to you and your team, particularly for your commitment to pledge deployment of all resources at your disposal for our safety”.

Prof. Ogunsola emphasized the need for the Police Force to keep vigil on the university and its environs in view of the prevailing tense situations being experienced across the country.

She called for more support from the security outfit to help forestall any threat in relation to the harsh economic realities, noting that the students are now politically aware more than ever before.

The visit of ACP Adedeji to the university ended with a group photograph and then a presentation of souvenir by the Vice-Chancellor.    

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services. Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa; Chief Security Officer, UNILAG, Mr. Sunday Alao and the Head of Crime, Mr. Ayedun Godwin Onasanya.
