Management of the University of Lagos led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, on Monday, August 22, 2022 played host to the Advisory Board members and Management of Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence in African Studies, University of Bayreuth, Germany.
While receiving the team, Prof. Ogundipe appreciated the management of Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence in African Studies, University of Bayreuth for the sustained interest in UNILAG. He noted that the existing relationship facilitated the establishment of its cluster centre in UNILAG and its funding over the years.
Assuring the team of the University’s openness to a more cordial engagement, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University’s readiness to take the partnership to the next level with a view to promoting African studies and projecting the real image of Africa globally.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Prof. Dr Seeseman from the University of Bayreuth, commended University of Lagos for the milestones recorded through various collaborative researches and hosting of different programmes geared towards promoting a deeper understanding of Africa.
The visit by the Advisory Board Members and Management of Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence in African Studies to the University of Lagos, according to Professor Dr. Rudiger Seeseman, is in pursuance of efforts to foster new ways and consolidate on existing modes of knowledge exchange as well as multidisciplinary research approach in African Studies.
Prof. Dr. Seeseman restated the commitment of the German government through the University of Bayreuth towards a continued funding and sustenance of the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (I.A.D.S) being its cluster centre in the University of Lagos. He emphasized the need for consolidated efforts aimed at building more partnerships which would lead to additional multidisciplinary approaches to African Studies.
The management team of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence in African Studies is in UNILAG, one of its 5 cluster centres, as part of efforts to commence the process for the centre’s renewal at the expiration of the current tenure in 2025.
