UNILAG/INSTITUTE OF CONTINUING EDUCATION INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION INTO THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION UNDERGRADUATE SANDWICH AND PART- TIME (EVENING) EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAMMES FOR THE YEAR 2011/2012 SESSION

B.A (Ed) / B.SC(Ed) SANDWICH PROGRAMMES

 

The undergraduate Sandwich Programme is in the following areas of study:

3.       English Education

4.       History Education               

5.       Guidance and Counseling     

6.       Yoruba Education

7.       Christian Religion Studies    

8.       Islamic Religious Studies     

9.       Geography Education

10.     Mathematics Education       

11.     Health Education                

12.     Igbo Education

13.     Physical Education             

14.     Biology Education              

15.     Home Economics     

16.     Integrated Science Education         

17.     Technology Education         

18.     Chemistry Education

19.     Educational Administration   

20.     Physics Education                

 

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

*        5 Long Vacation periods for NCE holders (or it equivalent)

*        6 Long Vacation periods for Non-NCE holders

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In order to be eligible for admission into the Sandwich Degree Programme, a candidate must possess the following qualifications:

 

a.       The Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE) or the General Certificate of Education (GCE) or its equivalent with Credit Passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics obtained at not more than two sittings. The subjects accepted for a B.A(Ed) Degree in Adult Education, Educational Administration and Guidance and Counselling are as follows:

          i.        Literature in English  

ii.       History         

iii.       French         

iv.      Igbo

          v.       Geography             

vi.      Yoruba         

vii.      Christian Religious Studies

viii.     Islamic Religious Studies     

ix.      Mathematics  

x.       Economics

          xi.      Government           

xii.      Commerce             

xiii.     Home Economics

 

b.       Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE)

c.       Diploma from at least a two-year’s study from a recognized University.

d.       General Nursing and Midwifery Certificates, Public Health Nursing Certificates. Diploma in Public Nursing Certificate; General Nursing Certificate.

e.       For Non-NCE holders: PSE Certificate of the former Institute of Education, University of Lagos, (not below Lower Credit) with at least 5 Credits in GCE O/L including English Language

B.Sc. HEALTH EDUCATION (FOUR YEAR PROGRAMME)

Applicants for this programme should possess at least one of the following:

i.        General Nursing and Midwifery Certificates

ii.       Public Health Nursing Certificates

iii.       Diploma in Public Health Nursing Certificates

Such applicants must have not less than five papers at credit level, including English and Mathematics at two sittings.

  

B. Ed (EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION)( PART-TIME EVENING DEGREE PROGRAMME)

This is an evening degree programme designed to develop the critical human power equipped with sufficient developmentally appropriate paedagogiical skills to drive early childhood education in the 21st Century in an emerging economy.

 

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

*        4 years of eight semesters for NCE holders (or its equivalent)

*        5 years of ten semesters for holders of SSCE, GCE O/L or equivalent qualifications

Lectures are held on weekdays Monday to Friday between 4.00 - 8.00PM each day.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1.        Holders of the SSCE or its equivalent qualification with at least Credit Passes in five Subjectss including English Language, Mathematics, and any other three Arts/Social Science/Science Subject obtained at not more than two sittings.

2.         NCE Certificate holders.

METHOD OF APPLICATION  

Qualified candidates for any of the Programmes should make a request for an application form  0n-line, via University of Lagos website URL http://www.unilag.edu.ng  upon payment of a non-refundable fee of   N7,500.00 to ICE Account No. 027001000005965 at Intercontinental Bank Plc, Unilag Branch, Akoka.

 

CLOSING DATE

Completed application forms must be submitted On-line and a hard copy returned with photocopies of credentials and one passport size photograph to: The Coordinator, Sandwich Programmes, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba not later than May 27, 2011.

 

QUALIFYING EXAMINATION

(a)  A Qualifying Examination consisting of written tests in English Language, Mathematics and General Knowledge will hold on Saturday, 18th June, 2011 at 9.00Am Prompt at the Faculty of Education Auditorium.

(b)   Provisional admission letters for successful candidates will be ready for collection from the Sandwich office, by July 4, 2011.
